Tardaó

My final degree project emerged from experimenting with textiles, leading to Tardaó—a rug designed to create a calming corner in indoor spaces. It aims to evoke peace and tranquility, offering a soft, comfortable spot to relax and pause amid a busy day.

I began the project by experimenting with materials, cutting organic, leaf-like shapes. Researching leaf types, I explored various materials, colors, and forms, documenting the trial-and-error process in a sketchbook that guided me to the final design.

The product is inspired by a tangle of leaves, reflecting nature's calming and peaceful essence—qualities often sought in indoor spaces. This connection to nature is commonly achieved through elements like plants, flowers, or thoughtful design and lighting.

This rug serves as an oasis, with shapes and colors inspired by nature. Designed for handmade production, it highlights the close connection textiles have with the body, offering texture, warmth, and well-being. In a world filled with harmful factors like synthetic fabrics and pollution, I explore how textiles can positively impact both emotions and overall health.

By simply manipulating the fabric in relation to the shape of the cut-out, folding and clamping, each cut-out was transformed into a new volumetric shape. It was by playing with shapes that I discovered a new method of creating volumetric effects from flat fabric.

Using organic shapes and elements, the design brings the calm of the outdoors into indoor spaces, creating a natural atmosphere. It resembles a small textile garden, evoking an autumn field with its shapes and colors.
